What Is HPN-ICF-3GMODEM-MIB?

The module exposes hpnicfWirelessCardTable/Entry keyed by hpnicfWirelessCardIndex, holding hpnicfWirelessCardModelName, hpnicfWirelessCardMfgName, hpnicfWirelessCardSerialNumber, hpnicfWirelessCardHardwareVersion, hpnicfWirelessCardFirmwareVersion, hpnicfWirelessCardPRLVersion, and hpnicfWirelessCardInterfaceIndex. An administrator would poll hpnicfWirelessCardFirmwareVersion and hpnicfWirelessCardPRLVersion across a fleet of branch routers to identify units running outdated firmware or roaming lists that may need updating, and use hpnicfWirelessCardInterfaceIndex to cross-reference the modem with IF-MIB interface status to confirm the cellular link itself is up. A card missing from the table or reporting no serial number would indicate the wireless card is not detected or has failed.

How to Use in IPNetwork Monitor

Example using hpnicfWirelessCardModemStatus OID:

Select an HP branch/remote-site router with 3G cellular WAN modem card as the target host to create a monitor — the SNMP service should be up and running on it. Click New Monitor, then check SNMP Custom on the Favorites tab, click Next, and confirm the host. On the next page, click Select... to open the built-in SNMP MIB Browser and type hpnicfWirelessCardModemStatus into the Find box to locate it in the OID tree, selecting the specific row/instance you want to monitor since this is a table column, then select it and click OK. The status of modem. On the monitor's Main parameters page you can set the target's SNMP port (default 161), credentials, polling interval, and other settings — see the SNMP Monitor help for details. On the State conditions and Alerting tabs, configure when the monitor should change state and trigger an alert; since this is an INTEGER-type OID, Value bounds is the most useful condition here — trigger an alert if the value is anything other than 'onLine', since that indicates the condition this object reports has changed to one worth investigating. Click Finish to create the monitor; you can adjust any parameter later.
