Description: HP ServerNet (Foundry-heritage) SNMP MIB for Packet over SONET (POS) interface configuration and WAN statistics on HP SN devices.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is HP-SN-POS-GROUP-MIB?

HP-SN-POS-GROUP-MIB is an HP ServerNet (originally Foundry Networks-heritage) SNMP module for managing Packet over SONET (POS) WAN interfaces on HP SN-series devices. It exposes per-port configuration (speed, clock source, loopback, scrambling) and administrative/link status for POS interfaces used to carry IP traffic over SONET/SDH circuits. Its monitoring focus is WAN interface hardware/link status — confirming a POS port's administrative and link state, and validating its clocking and framing configuration, to catch a SONET circuit that has gone down or is misconfigured. It parallels concepts in the IETF's SONET-MIB but is implemented as an HP/Foundry-specific proprietary group rather than a formal extension of that standard. It is deployed on HP SN-series WAN aggregation or edge devices connecting to SONET/SDH carrier circuits, and administrators can complete an HP-SN-POS-GROUP-MIB download to load the module directly into their MIB browser.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in HP-SN-POS-GROUP-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • HP ServerNet (SN) POS/SONET interface device

Monitoring Examples

An administrator can poll snPOSInfoTable/snPOSInfoEntry, keyed by snPOSInfoPortNum and mapped to snPOSIfIndex, to check snPOSInfoAdminStatus against snPOSInfoLinkStatus and detect a POS port that is administratively enabled but has no link, indicating a SONET circuit or transceiver failure. Fields like snPOSInfoSpeed, snPOSInfoClock, and snPOSInfoLoopBack would be checked to confirm the port's clocking and loopback configuration matches the intended carrier circuit setup.

What Can Be Monitored

  • POS port admin status
  • POS port link status
  • POS port speed
  • clock source configuration
  • loopback mode
