Description: SNMP MIB from HP for managing HP 3000 series minicomputer systems that run the MPE XL (Multi-Programming Executive) operating environment.
Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.
What Is HP-MPE-XL?
HP-MPE-XL is an HP proprietary SNMP MIB for managing HP 3000 series minicomputer systems running the MPE/XL (Multi-Programming Executive) operating system. It exposes storage-subsystem data, primarily around disk volumes attached to the system, including volume identity, drive type, and capacity information. Though narrower in scope than a full server-health MIB, it supports hardware/storage status monitoring by letting an administrator confirm whether expected volumes are mounted (volumeMounted) and check physical/logical characteristics like volumeDriveType, volumeSectorSize, and volumeCapacity, as well as MPE-specific overhead metrics that reflect filesystem/OS-level resource consumption. It is a legacy, self-contained vendor MIB with no apparent dependency on standard IETF storage MIBs, reflecting its origin in HP's proprietary MPE/XL platform predating common storage MIB standards. It is typically deployed in legacy HP 3000 minicomputer environments still in production for business-critical applications. Engineers can download the HP-MPE-XL file directly to load it into their MIB browser.
IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in HP-MPE-XL. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.
Supported Devices
- HP 3000 series minicomputer (MPE/XL)
Monitoring Examples
The module exposes volumeTable/Entry keyed by volumeLDEV, holding volumeName, volumeMounted, volumeDriveType, volumeSectorSize, volumeType, and volumeCapacity for each disk volume on the HP 3000 system. An administrator would poll volumeMounted across all expected LDEVs to confirm no volume has become unmounted unexpectedly, and watch volumeMPEOverhead/volumeMPETransOverhead alongside volumeCapacity to gauge how much of a volume's capacity is consumed by MPE filesystem overhead versus usable data. A volume showing as unmounted or with capacity near the volumeMPEConfigMaxTrans limit would indicate a storage issue needing attention on this legacy system.
What Can Be Monitored
- volume mount status
- volume capacity and drive type
- MPE filesystem overhead
- transaction overhead vs. configured maximum
