Description: HP ICF SNMP MIB for device identity management tracking hardware serial numbers, product IDs, and asset information on HP ProCurve devices.
Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.
What Is HP-ICF-DEVICEIDENTITY-MIB?
This is an HP ICF (Industry-standard Command-line Framework) MIB used on HP ProCurve/Aruba networking devices to expose device identity information discovered via LLDP (Link Layer Discovery Protocol). It provides a device identity table capturing identity details discovered through LLDP organizationally-specific TLVs, essentially asset/inventory data such as device subtype and vendor identification rather than performance counters. Though its primary purpose is identity/asset tracking, it supports monitoring hardware inventory status by letting administrators confirm which devices are discovered and correctly identified on the network. It explicitly depends on LLDP (IEEE 802.1AB) as its discovery mechanism, since the module description states identification relies on LLDP OUI and device subtype TLVs. It is typically deployed in HP ProCurve/Aruba enterprise environments for automated network device discovery and inventory tracking. Engineers can download the HP-ICF-DEVICEIDENTITY-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.
IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in HP-ICF-DEVICEIDENTITY-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.
Supported Devices
- HP ProCurve/Aruba switch
- HP networking device supporting LLDP discovery
Monitoring Examples
An administrator polls hpicfDeviceIdentityTable to review identity records populated via LLDP discovery for neighboring or local devices, confirming expected devices are recognized correctly. An entry that fails to populate or shows an unexpected vendor/subtype could indicate an LLDP misconfiguration or an unrecognized device connected to the network.
What Can Be Monitored
- discovered device identity records
- device vendor/OUI identification
- LLDP-based device subtype
