Description: Hirschmann HiOS (HM2) content-addressable memory management MIB for MAC address table management.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is HM2-CAM-MGMT-MIB?

HM2-CAM-MGMT-MIB is a Hirschmann HiOS proprietary MIB (built for ABB private-labeled equipment) that manages Central Authentication Management (CAM) client/server settings, despite its name suggesting content-addressable memory. It exposes configuration data for authentication server connectivity, including server address, port, directory base DN, and search-string settings used for centralized authentication lookups (LDAP-style). Its monitoring relevance is largely operational/configuration status rather than hardware telemetry: administrators can check hm2CamConfigAdminStatus to confirm the CAM client is enabled and hm2CamConfigLastValidServerindex to see which authentication server last responded successfully, which reveals authentication-service reachability issues. As a Hirschmann HiOS private MIB it depends on the vendor's private enterprise tree and is typically layered alongside other HM2 authentication MIBs (e.g. remote authentication/LDAP) rather than any IETF standard. It is deployed on Hirschmann/ABB industrial Ethernet switches used in substations or industrial networks requiring centralized user authentication. Engineers can download the HM2-CAM-MGMT-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in HM2-CAM-MGMT-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • Hirschmann/ABB HiOS industrial Ethernet switch

Monitoring Examples

An operator would check hm2CamConfigAdminStatus and hm2CamConfigLastValidServerindex to confirm which server in hm2CamClientServerAddrTable last authenticated a session successfully. Each row (hm2CamClientServerAddrEntry, indexed by hm2CamClientServerIndex) holds hm2CamClientServerAddr, hm2CamClientServerPort, and hm2CamClientServerBaseDN, letting an admin verify the directory server configuration matches expectations. If hm2CamConfigLastValidServerindex repeatedly falls back to a secondary server, it signals the primary authentication server is unreachable or misconfigured.

What Can Be Monitored

  • CAM admin status
  • last valid authentication server index
  • configured server address/port
  • directory base DN and search string
  • server replication interval
