Description: HILLSTONE-DNS-MIB module
Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.
What Is HILLSTONE-DNS-MIB?
HILLSTONE-DNS-MIB is a proprietary MIB from Hillstone Networks, a network security vendor, covering DNS-related configuration on its firewall/security gateway appliances. It exposes the device's DNS server operating mode, a table of configured DNS domains, and separate tables of static and dynamic DNS server addresses used for name resolution. It functions mainly as a configuration-status monitoring MIB rather than a hardware-sensor MIB, letting an operator confirm the DNS work mode and verify that the expected DNS domains and server addresses are correctly configured, since a missing or wrong entry here would directly cause resolution failures affecting other services on the device. No dependency on other standard MIBs is apparent; it appears self-contained. It is typically deployed on Hillstone Networks firewall/UTM/security gateway appliances. Engineers can download the HILLSTONE-DNS-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.
IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in HILLSTONE-DNS-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.
Supported Devices
- Hillstone Networks firewall/security gateway appliance
Monitoring Examples
An administrator would poll hillstoneDnsSrvWorkMode to confirm the device's DNS operating mode, then walk hillstoneStaticDnsServAddressTable (via hillstoneStaticDnsServIdx/hillstoneStaticDnsIpAddr) and hillstoneDnsDomainTable (hillstoneDnsDomainName) to verify the configured static DNS servers and domains match intended settings. A missing or unreachable hillstoneStaticDnsIpAddr entry would point to a DNS misconfiguration likely causing downstream resolution failures.
What Can Be Monitored
- DNS server work mode
- configured DNS domain list
- static DNS server addresses
- dynamic DNS server addresses
