Description: Siemens HiPath Wireless HiGuard MIB for WLAN intrusion detection managing rogue device monitoring and security policy.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is HIPATH-WIRELESS-HIGUARD-MIB?

HIPATH-WIRELESS-HIGUARD-MIB is a Siemens Enterprise Networks (HiPath Wireless) proprietary MIB, registered under hiPathWirelessHWM, that exists to parse events forwarded by a HiGuard wireless intrusion-detection server (branded SpectraGuard Enterprise) into SNMP notifications. It defines four small objects that make up the varbind list of its single notification: eventSeverityLevel (high/medium/low), senderComponentId and senderIPaddress identifying which HiGuard sensor/component raised the event, and eventSummaryDescription carrying a free-text summary of the event. All four are bundled into the single hiGuardEvent NOTIFICATION-TYPE, described in the MIB itself as a "SpectraGuard Enterprise Event." Because the module has no configuration or counter objects, its entire monitoring value is as a bridge that lets a standard SNMP trap receiver ingest WLAN rogue-device and intrusion-detection alerts from the HiGuard/SpectraGuard system without needing a dedicated console. It depends on the parent HIPATH-WIRELESS-SMI for its enterprise registration point. It is deployed alongside HiPath Wireless controllers and HiGuard sensors in enterprise WLAN deployments, where HIPATH-WIRELESS-HIGUARD-MIB SNMP monitoring lets security teams route rogue-AP and wireless-attack alerts into their existing SNMP-based alerting pipeline.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in HIPATH-WIRELESS-HIGUARD-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • Siemens Enterprise Networks HiPath Wireless controllers with HiGuard (SpectraGuard Enterprise) WLAN IDS sensors

Monitoring Examples

An operator's trap receiver captures a hiGuardEvent notification and inspects eventSeverityLevel and eventSummaryDescription alongside senderComponentId; a stream of high-severity events from the same senderComponentId in a short window would indicate an active rogue access point or wireless attack being detected by that HiGuard sensor.

What Can Be Monitored

  • event severity level
  • sending HiGuard component identifier
  • sending sensor IP address
  • event summary description text
