Description: Provides Fibre Channel traceroute diagnostic objects for path discovery on H3C FC fabric switches.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is HH3C-FC-TRACE-ROUTE-MIB?

HH3C-FC-TRACE-ROUTE-MIB is an H3C proprietary MIB for managing Fibre Channel traceroute diagnostics on H3C Fibre Channel (FC) fabric switches, letting a management station trigger and retrieve path-discovery results between FC endpoints within a VSAN. It exposes a trace configuration/results table capturing the target address, VSAN, timeout, aging interval, administrative and operational status, and whether a trap fires on completion. The monitoring value here is diagnostic/operational rather than continuous polling of hardware sensors: hh3cFcTraceRouteOperStatus tells an operator whether a triggered trace has completed, failed, or is in progress, which is used to verify FC fabric path health and connectivity between storage-network nodes. It is layered on top of standard Fibre Channel fabric addressing/VSAN concepts (akin to IETF/ANSI T11 FC-GS conventions) though implemented as an H3C proprietary extension. It is deployed in H3C SAN (storage area network) environments where Fibre Channel switches need active path-diagnostic tooling similar to IP traceroute. Engineers can download the HH3C-FC-TRACE-ROUTE-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in HH3C-FC-TRACE-ROUTE-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • H3C Fibre Channel SAN switches

Monitoring Examples

A SAN administrator would create an entry in hh3cFcTraceRouteTable/hh3cFcTraceRouteEntry specifying hh3cFcTraceRouteVsan, hh3cFcTraceRouteAddressType, and hh3cFcTraceRouteAddress for the target device, set hh3cFcTraceRouteAdminStatus to initiate the trace, and then poll hh3cFcTraceRouteOperStatus until it reports completion. If hh3cFcTraceRouteTrapOnCompletion is enabled, the switch will notify the manager via trap rather than requiring polling, at which point the results in hh3cFcTraceRouteResults reveal the hop-by-hop path or a failure point in the fabric. This is used to diagnose SAN connectivity problems between a host and a storage array across a multi-switch Fibre Channel fabric.

What Can Be Monitored

  • FC trace route target/VSAN configuration
  • trace admin/operational status
  • trace timeout and aging interval
  • trace completion trap notification
