What Is A3COM-HUAWEI-3GMODEM-MIB?

A3COM-HUAWEI-3GMODEM-MIB is a joint 3Com/H3C (Huawei-3Com) enterprise MIB for managing 3G wireless WAN cards and their UIM (a SIM-like User Identification Module) inserted into H3C routers and switches. It exposes an inventory table of installed wireless cards, including model name, manufacturer, description, serial number, hardware/firmware version, and PRL (Preferred Roaming List) version, tied to the router interface the card serves. Monitoring focus is on hardware and software identity/version status: administrators verify the correct card model, firmware version, and PRL version are installed and check the associated interface index to correlate the modem with its logical WAN interface. It is a proprietary H3C extension, not based on a shared IETF cellular-modem MIB standard. Deployment context is enterprise branch routers using inserted 3G wireless WAN cards as a backup or primary uplink. Engineers can download the A3COM-HUAWEI-3GMODEM-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in A3COM-HUAWEI-3GMODEM-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • H3C (3Com/Huawei-3Com) router with 3G wireless WAN card

Monitoring Examples

An admin polls h3cWirelessCardTable indexed by h3cWirelessCardIndex to read h3cWirelessCardFirmwareVersion and h3cWirelessCardPRLVersion, confirming the installed card's firmware and roaming list are current. h3cWirelessCardInterfaceIndex ties the card to its logical WAN interface so an operator can correlate modem inventory (h3cWirelessCardModelName, h3cWirelessCardSerialNumber) with the interface's up/down state.

What Can Be Monitored

  • wireless card model/manufacturer
  • hardware/firmware version
  • PRL version
  • serial number
  • associated interface index

How to Use in IPNetwork Monitor

Example using h3cWirelessCardModemStatus OID:

Select an H3C router with a 3G WAN card as the target host to create a monitor — the SNMP service should be up and running on it. Click New Monitor, then check SNMP Custom on the Favorites tab, click Next, and confirm the host. On the next page, click Select... to open the built-in SNMP MIB Browser and type h3cWirelessCardModemStatus into the Find box to locate it in the OID tree, selecting the specific row/instance you want to monitor since this is a table column, then select it and click OK. The status of modem. On the monitor's Main parameters page you can set the target's SNMP port (default 161), credentials, polling interval, and other settings — see the SNMP Monitor help for details. On the State conditions and Alerting tabs, configure when the monitor should change state and trigger an alert; since this is an INTEGER-type OID, Value bounds is the most useful condition here — trigger an alert if the value is anything other than 'onLine', since that indicates the condition this object reports has changed to one worth investigating. Click Finish to create the monitor; you can adjust any parameter later.
