Description: Manages the Fibre Channel Name Server database, storing registered WWNs and port attributes on H3C FC switches.
Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.
What Is HH3C-FC-NAME-SERVER-MIB?
HH3C-FC-NAME-SERVER-MIB manages the Fibre Channel Name Server database on H3C Fibre Channel/FCoE switches, the fabric service that tracks which devices, such as host bus adapters and storage targets, are logged into the fabric and their World Wide Names (WWNs). It exposes objects for enabling port-login/logout notifications, the local switch's own WWN, and the WWN of the port that most recently performed a fabric login, alongside notification objects for login/logout events. Its monitoring value is centered on SAN fabric connectivity status: an administrator can track when a storage initiator or target logs in or out of the fabric, which is critical for detecting unexpected storage-path loss or an unauthorized device joining the SAN, functioning as a software/service-status signal for the fabric's name-server rather than physical hardware. It is an H3C-specific management extension of the standard Fibre Channel Name Server function defined by the FC-GS (Generic Services) specifications, and it depends on that underlying FC fabric services model. It is deployed on H3C Fibre Channel/FCoE SAN switches used in enterprise storage-area-network fabrics. Engineers can download the HH3C-FC-NAME-SERVER-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.
IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in HH3C-FC-NAME-SERVER-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.
Supported Devices
- H3C Fibre Channel switches
- H3C FCoE switches
Monitoring Examples
An administrator would enable hh3cFcNsPortLoginNotifyEnable and hh3cFcNsPortLogoutNotifyEnable so that hh3cFcNsNotification events fire whenever a device performs an FLOGI/logout, carrying the affected hh3cFcNsFloginPortWWN. Polling hh3cFcNsLocalSwitchWWN confirms the switch's own fabric identity when correlating events across multiple switches in the fabric. A logout notification for a WWN corresponding to a critical storage target, with no matching login shortly after, would indicate an unexpected storage path failure requiring immediate SAN investigation.
What Can Be Monitored
- port login/logout notification enablement
- local switch WWN
- WWN of device performing fabric login
- fabric login/logout events
