Category: Domain: Video/Broadcast, Vendor: H3C/HH3C

Description: Monitors CATV optical transceiver parameters including optical power levels and temperature on H3C access nodes.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is HH3C-CATV-TRANSCEIVER-MIB?

HH3C-CATV-TRANSCEIVER-MIB manages CATV (Community Antenna Television/cable) optical transceiver modules installed in H3C access/aggregation nodes used for RF-over-fiber or hybrid fiber-coax delivery. It exposes hardware environmental and optical-performance data for each transceiver, including operational state, optical input power, RF output level, and internal temperature, plus configurable low/high alarm thresholds for each. Its primary purpose is hardware health monitoring of the pluggable optical module itself, detecting an out-of-range optical input power, an overheating transceiver, or degraded output level before it causes video/signal quality issues, and it also generates traps when thresholds are crossed. It is an H3C-specific hardware-management extension and does not depend on an external standard transceiver MIB, being tailored to CATV-specific parameters. It is deployed on H3C CATV/HFC access nodes and headend equipment used by cable operators and MSOs. Engineers can download the HH3C-CATV-TRANSCEIVER-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in HH3C-CATV-TRANSCEIVER-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • H3C CATV/HFC access node
  • H3C CATV transceiver module

Monitoring Examples

An administrator would poll hh3cCATVTransInputPwr and hh3cCATVTransOutputLevel per transceiver to track optical receive power and RF output, alongside hh3cCATVTransTemperature for the module's internal temperature. If hh3cCATVTransInputPwr drops below hh3cCATVTransInputPwrLowerThr, or hh3cCATVTransTemperature exceeds hh3cCATVTransTempratureUpperThr, the module's hh3cCATVTransStatus would flip and a hh3cCATVTansTrap notification would fire. A sustained low-input-power reading on one node's transceiver while others remain normal would point to a fiber-plant or connector degradation issue upstream of that specific node.

What Can Be Monitored

  • transceiver operational state
  • optical input power
  • RF output level
  • module temperature
  • input power alarm threshold
  • temperature alarm threshold

How to Use in IPNetwork Monitor

Example using hh3cCATVTransState OID:

Select an H3C CATV/HFC access node (optical transceiver hardware health) as the target host to create a monitor — the SNMP service should be up and running on it. Click New Monitor, then check SNMP Custom on the Favorites tab, click Next, and confirm the host. On the next page, click Select... to open the built-in SNMP MIB Browser and type hh3cCATVTransState into the Find box to locate it in the OID tree, then select it and click OK. The state of CATV transceiver. On the monitor's Main parameters page you can set the target's SNMP port (default 161), credentials, polling interval, and other settings — see the SNMP Monitor help for details. On the State conditions and Alerting tabs, configure when the monitor should change state and trigger an alert; since this is an INTEGER-type OID, Value bounds is the most useful condition here — trigger an alert if the value is anything other than 'on', since that indicates the condition this object reports has changed to one worth investigating. Click Finish to create the monitor; you can adjust any parameter later.
