Category: Domain: Video/Broadcast, Vendor: H3C/HH3C

Description: Manages media stream management functions for multicast video distribution on H3C access nodes.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is HH3C-MS-MAN-MIB?

HH3C-MS-MAN-MIB is an H3C-proprietary SNMP module for managing Media Stream (MS) components, used to control and monitor multicast/unicast video (e.g., video-on-demand) distribution capabilities on H3C access and broadband nodes. It exposes configuration objects (statistical period, per-forward-path maximum connections and connection thresholds) alongside runtime counters covering current and periodic forward connections, total connection time, and total connection counts, plus a VOD-specific table. As a monitoring MIB its emphasis is squarely on service/software-level operational status rather than physical hardware: hh3cMSCurrentForwardConnection and hh3cMSPeriodForwardConnection reveal real-time and historical load on the media-forwarding function, and threshold objects support alerting when connection counts approach configured limits. It is a standalone vendor extension with no evident dependency on external streaming-related IETF MIBs. It is typically deployed on H3C broadband access or edge devices that provide IPTV/VOD multicast forwarding services to subscribers, where operators track connection load to avoid oversubscribing the media-forwarding path. Engineers can download the HH3C-MS-MAN-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in HH3C-MS-MAN-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • H3C broadband access nodes
  • H3C multicast/VOD edge devices

Monitoring Examples

An operator would poll hh3cMSForwardTable/hh3cMSForwardEntry (indexed by hh3cMSForwardIndex) to read hh3cMSCurrentForwardConnection against hh3cMSForwardMaxConnection and hh3cMSForwardConnectionThreshold, catching the moment a forwarding path nears saturation. hh3cMSForwardTotalTime and hh3cMSForwardTotalConn give cumulative usage over the hh3cMSStatisticalPeriod, useful for capacity planning of the video distribution service. The hh3cMSVODTable/hh3cMSVODIndex entries would be checked separately to monitor video-on-demand session load, with hh3cMSManMIBTrap notifications firing if a forwarding path exceeds its configured connection threshold.

What Can Be Monitored

  • current forward connections
  • periodic forward connection counts
  • forward connection threshold breaches
  • total forwarding connection time
  • total forwarding connection count
  • VOD session table entries
