Description: H3C MIB for Virtual Switch Instance (VSI) management in VPLS and EVPN-based Layer 2 VPN service deployments.
Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.
What Is H3C-VSI-MIB?
H3C-VSI-MIB is an H3C proprietary MIB for managing Virtual Switch Instances (VSIs), the Layer 2 forwarding contexts used to implement VPLS and EVPN-based Layer 2 VPN services on H3C provider-edge and metro Ethernet equipment. It exposes configuration objects describing each VSI's identity, mode, associated I-SID, transport mode, hub-and-spoke setting, and administrative state. For monitoring purposes, the key software-status data is the per-VSI h3cVsiAdminState and h3cVsiRowStatus, which tell an operator whether a given virtual switch instance is administratively up and properly provisioned, which is critical for confirming that a customer's L2VPN service is active rather than silently down. This MIB is closely tied to underlying MPLS/VPLS and PBB (Provider Backbone Bridging) concepts and typically works alongside BGP/LDP signaling MIBs that establish the pseudowires a VSI rides on. It is deployed on H3C carrier-class and metro-Ethernet switches/routers offering Layer 2 VPN and Carrier Ethernet services. Engineers can download the H3C-VSI-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.
IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in H3C-VSI-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.
Supported Devices
- H3C carrier/metro Ethernet switches and routers
Monitoring Examples
An operator would walk h3cVsiTable/h3cVsiEntry keyed by h3cVsiIndex to retrieve h3cVsiName, h3cVsiId, h3cVsiMode, and h3cVsiTransMode for each configured virtual switch instance, then check h3cVsiAdminState to confirm the instance is enabled. Using h3cVsiNextAvailableVsiIndex, provisioning scripts can determine the next free VSI slot before creating a new L2VPN instance. If a customer reports service loss, comparing h3cVsiAdminState against the expected 'up' state and reviewing h3cVsiEnableHubSpoke would reveal whether the VSI was inadvertently disabled or misconfigured in hub-spoke mode.
What Can Be Monitored
- VSI administrative state
- VSI identifier and name
- VSI mode (VPLS/EVPN)
- hub-spoke configuration
- transport mode
- row/provisioning status
