Description: Provides extended WLAN management objects for H3C 802.11 networks beyond standard IEEE definitions.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is A3COM-HUAWEI-DOT11-WLANEXT-MIB?

A3COM-HUAWEI-DOT11-WLANEXT-MIB is a joint H3C/3Com (Huawei-3Com) vendor extension MIB that supplements the standard IEEE 802.11 MIB with additional wireless LAN management objects, as its description references 802.11 and 802.11e QoS. It exposes per-access-point, per-radio RF signal-quality statistics and QoS statistics for wireless LAN infrastructure. From a monitoring standpoint it tracks the radio-frequency health of access points — average/maximum/minimum signal strength per radio over a configurable statistics interval — and QoS-related statistics, together revealing RF interference, weak coverage, or degraded voice/video service on the WLAN. It is explicitly an extension to the standard IEEE 802.11 MIB (and implicitly the 802.11e QoS model), so it is deployed alongside the standard dot11 MIB rather than replacing it. Typical deployment is on H3C/3Com wireless access points and WLAN controllers in enterprise Wi-Fi deployments. Engineers can download the A3COM-HUAWEI-DOT11-WLANEXT-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in A3COM-HUAWEI-DOT11-WLANEXT-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • H3C/3Com wireless access point
  • H3C/3Com WLAN controller

Monitoring Examples

An admin would poll h3cDot11RFSignalStatisTable (keyed by h3cDot11RFAPID and h3cDot11RFRadioID) to read h3cDot11RFAverageSignalStrength, h3cDot11RFMaxSignalStrength, and h3cDot11RFMinSignalStrength over each h3cDot11RFSignalStatisInterv, catching an access point whose average signal has dropped due to interference or a failing radio. In parallel, h3cDot11QosStatisTable (keyed by h3cDot11QosAPID/h3cDot11QosRadioID) exposes per-AP QoS statistics that would show degraded voice/video traffic handling on a specific radio. Both tables let an operator pinpoint which AP/radio pair needs attention rather than only seeing WLAN-wide symptoms.

What Can Be Monitored

  • per-AP/per-radio average signal strength
  • per-AP/per-radio max/min signal strength
  • signal statistics interval
  • per-AP/per-radio QoS statistics

How to Use in IPNetwork Monitor

Example using h3cDot11AcDropFrameCnt OID:

Select an H3C wireless controller or access point as the target host to create a monitor — the SNMP service should be up and running on it. Click New Monitor, then check SNMP Custom on the Favorites tab, click Next, and confirm the host. On the next page, click Select... to open the built-in SNMP MIB Browser and type h3cDot11AcDropFrameCnt into the Find box to locate it in the OID tree, selecting the specific row/instance you want to monitor since this is a table column, then select it and click OK. The number of dropped frames in a minute for one specific access category because of full queue. On the monitor's Main parameters page you can set the target's SNMP port (default 161), credentials, polling interval, and other settings — see the SNMP Monitor help for details. On the State conditions and Alerting tabs, configure when the monitor should change state and trigger an alert; since this is a Counter32-type OID, Value bounds is the most useful condition here — trigger an alert if the counter increases between polls, since a rising count of errors, failures, or discards often points to a real underlying problem. Click Finish to create the monitor; you can adjust any parameter later.
