Category: Network Monitoring (RMON), Vendor: H3C/HH3C

Description: H3C MIB extending RMON with H3C-specific network monitoring statistics and threshold management capabilities.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is H3C-RMON-EXT2-MIB?

H3C-RMON-EXT2-MIB is an H3C proprietary extension to the standard RMON (Remote Monitoring) MIB, adding enhanced alarm capabilities for tracking arbitrary MIB variables against configurable thresholds. It exposes an alarm table where each entry defines a monitored variable, sampling interval and type, and rising/falling threshold values along with the associated event indices to trigger. This is a performance/threshold-monitoring MIB used to proactively detect abnormal conditions — such as interface errors, CPU load, or any other polled counter crossing a threshold — by generating an alarm/event rather than requiring constant manual polling. It explicitly builds on and extends the standard IETF RMON MIB (RFC 2819) alarm-group concept, adding H3C-specific fields. It's deployed on H3C switches and routers wherever administrators want proactive threshold-based alerting for network or system counters beyond stock RMON's limits, and administrators can download the H3C-RMON-EXT2-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in H3C-RMON-EXT2-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • H3C switches
  • H3C routers

Monitoring Examples

An administrator would configure h3cRmonExtAlarmTable/h3cRmonExtAlarmEntry (indexed by h3cRmonExtAlarmIndex) to watch a specific h3cRmonExtAlarmVariable (e.g., an interface error counter or CPU OID) at h3cRmonExtAlarmInterval seconds, setting h3cRmonExtAlarmRisingThreshold and h3cRmonExtAlarmFallingThreshold to bracket normal operation. When the sampled h3cRmonExtAlarmValue crosses the rising threshold, h3cRmonExtAlarmRisingEvtIndex fires an event/trap, alerting staff to a sudden spike in errors on a link. h3cRmonExtAlarmStartupAlarm controls whether the alarm should fire immediately based on rising, falling, or either condition when first enabled.

What Can Be Monitored

  • threshold alarm configuration per variable
  • sampled variable current value
  • rising/falling threshold crossing events
  • alarm sampling interval and type
