Category: MPLS and Traffic Engineering, Vendor: H3C/HH3C

Description: H3C MIB extending standard MPLS MIBs with H3C-specific label switching path configuration and statistics.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is H3C-MPLSEXT-MIB?

H3C-MPLSEXT-MIB is an H3C proprietary extension to standard MPLS MIBs, adding vendor-specific label switch router (LSR) attributes and LDP (Label Distribution Protocol) status not covered by the IETF MPLS MIBs. It exposes objects such as the LSR ID, LDP session status, interface MTU, and capability flags, organized in tables indexed per interface/session. From a monitoring standpoint this is a software/protocol-status MIB, letting operators verify that LDP sessions are established and interfaces are MPLS-capable, essential for diagnosing label-switched path setup failures rather than physical hardware faults. It explicitly depends on and supplements the standard MPLS MIB framework (e.g., MPLS-LSR-MIB, MPLS-LDP-MIB), adding H3C-specific fields alongside those standards. The H3C-MPLSEXT-MIB MIB is deployed on H3C core/edge routers participating in an MPLS network, used alongside standard MPLS MIBs for a complete picture of label-switching health.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in H3C-MPLSEXT-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • H3C MPLS-capable routers
  • H3C core/edge switches

Monitoring Examples

An operator would poll h3cMplsExtLdpTable/h3cMplsExtLdpEntry to check h3cMplsExtLdpStatus for each LDP session, confirming sessions are operational rather than stuck negotiating. Checking h3cMplsExtTable's h3cMplsExtMtu and h3cMplsExtCapability per h3cMplsExtIndex helps confirm an interface is properly enabled for MPLS forwarding with a consistent MTU across the LSP. A mismatch or down status associated with h3cMplsExtLsrID would indicate an LDP peering problem preventing label distribution.

What Can Be Monitored

  • LDP session status
  • MPLS interface MTU
  • MPLS capability per interface
  • LSR ID
  • row status of MPLS extension entries
