Description: General DataComm DATX MIB for data transmission equipment configuration and performance monitoring.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is GDCDATX-MIB?

GDCDATX-MIB is a General DataComm proprietary MIB for the DATX line of data transmission/multiplexer equipment used in legacy WAN and telecom access networks. It exposes maintenance and configuration data for the device, including a maintenance table with firmware revision, default initialization settings, front panel and LED status, and a transmission configuration table covering serial line parameters such as baud rate. Its monitoring value centers on hardware and firmware status: administrators can check datxFirmwareRev to confirm the running software version, datxLedStatus and datxFrontPanel to gauge device-reported hardware health/alarm indications, and datxBaudRate/transmission config entries to verify the data line is configured and operating as expected. It is a self-contained vendor MIB with no apparent dependency on other standard MIBs. It was typically deployed on General DataComm DATX multiplexers/DSU-CSU equipment used at WAN circuit endpoints in legacy telecom and enterprise data networks. Engineers can download the GDCDATX-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in GDCDATX-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • General DataComm DATX WAN multiplexer/data transmission unit

Monitoring Examples

An administrator would poll datxMaintTable entries indexed by datxMaintIndex to read datxFirmwareRev and datxLedStatus, confirming the unit is running expected firmware and reporting a healthy front-panel LED state. Checking datxTransConfigTable entries for datxBaudRate against the expected line speed would reveal a serial configuration mismatch causing a WAN circuit outage. An unexpected datxLedStatus value combined with a stale datxFirmwareRev could reveal a unit that failed to complete a firmware upgrade.

What Can Be Monitored

  • firmware revision
  • front panel/LED status
  • transmission line baud rate configuration
  • maintenance table entries
  • default initialization state
