Category: Network Monitoring (RMON), Vendor: Galileo

Description: MIB for Galileo network management platform providing discovery, topology, and device monitoring objects.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is GALILEO-MIB?

Despite its short description describing a general "Galileo network management platform," GALILEO-MIB's actual objects (the "rl" prefix is RADLAN's vendor prefix, and "Galileo" refers to the Marvell/Galileo switch silicon family) reveal it to be a low-level switch-chip QoS and traffic-policy tuning module embedded in various RADLAN-based Ethernet switch firmwares. It exposes the chip's operating mode, over-provisioning and burst-size tuning for congestion policy, drop-precedence override behavior, and CoS flow-forwarding-table aging/polling parameters, plus a debug sub-tree for inspecting per-flow classification (FCOG) entries. This makes it a configuration and internal-diagnostic MIB for the switch's hardware QoS engine rather than a general fault/hardware-health MIB, useful for confirming that traffic-prioritization policy is tuned as intended and, via the debug objects, for inspecting how specific flows are being classified by the chip. It is an internal vendor/chip-specific MIB with no stated dependency on standard MIBs, tightly coupled to the Galileo silicon's own policy model. It would be found embedded in the management software of various Ethernet switches built around Marvell/Galileo switching silicon, most often accessed by vendor support engineers during deep QoS troubleshooting rather than routine monitoring. Engineers can download the GALILEO-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in GALILEO-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • Ethernet switch built on Marvell/Galileo switching silicon (RADLAN-based firmware)

Monitoring Examples

An engineer would check rlGalMode and rlGalModeAfterReset to confirm which chip operating mode is active and will persist across a reboot, and would review rlPolicyGalileoTuningOverProvisioning and rlPolicyGalileoTuningExtremConditionBurstSize when tuning how aggressively the switch reacts to congestion bursts. rlPolicyGalileoDebugFcogTable, keyed by rlPolicyGalileoDebugFcogType, would be inspected during a support escalation to see how the chip classified a specific flow (by rlPolicyGalileoDebugL2SrcAddr) and whether the observed rlPolicyGalileoDebugTuning matched the configured policy. rlCosFftAgingTimeout and rlCosFftPollingInterval would be checked if CoS classification appeared stale or slow to update.

What Can Be Monitored

  • chip operating mode
  • QoS over-provisioning/burst-size tuning
  • CoS flow table aging/polling interval
  • per-flow classification debug entries
