Category: Device Management

Description: MIB defining management objects for controlling and monitoring file transfer operations (TFTP/FTP) on network equipment.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is File-Transfer-MIB?

File-Transfer-MIB is a vendor-specific (Siemens/SNI, per its 'sni' object prefix) MIB defining management objects for controlling and monitoring file-transfer operations, such as TFTP/FTP/FTAM-style transfers, on network equipment. It exposes start/stop control objects for file-transfer sessions (including an FTAM-specific variant), system-parameter objects covering protocol version, transport unit size, task and connection limits, request-wait level, partner-check behavior, and station/processor naming. Its monitoring value is software/operational-status oriented: an operator can confirm whether file-transfer tasks are running within configured task/connection limits (ftSysparTaskLimit, ftSysparConnectionLimit) and identify the local processor/station handling transfers, which helps catch a device rejecting transfers due to limits being exceeded. No explicit dependency on other standard MIBs is indicated, though it reflects OSI FTAM concepts alongside conventional file transfer. It is deployed on Siemens/SNI network equipment or hosts that perform managed file-transfer operations as part of configuration or firmware distribution, and this File-Transfer-MIB reference documents the objects available for that purpose.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in File-Transfer-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • Siemens/SNI (Siemens Nixdorf Informationssysteme) network equipment

Monitoring Examples

An admin would check ftSysparTaskLimit and ftSysparConnectionLimit against the number of active transfers to see if the device is near its concurrent file-transfer capacity, and would use ftStartandStop or ftStartandStopFTAM to initiate or halt a transfer session and confirm it completed. ftSysparProcessorName and ftSysparStationName identify which processor/station instance is reporting, while ftSysparRequestWaitLevel and ftSysparPartnerCheck reveal configured behavior around request queuing and partner-validation during transfers.

What Can Be Monitored

  • file-transfer start/stop control state
  • task and connection limits
  • request-wait level configuration
  • partner-check setting
  • processor/station identity
