Description: Brocade Foundry MAC-based VLAN MIB providing per-MAC-address VLAN assignment configuration and management tables for FastIron switches.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is FOUNDRY-SN-MAC-VLAN-MIB?

FOUNDRY-SN-MAC-VLAN-MIB is a Brocade (Foundry Networks) vendor-specific MIB for configuring MAC-address-based VLAN assignment on FastIron switches, allowing devices to be dynamically placed into a VLAN based on their source MAC address rather than static port configuration. It exposes global dynamic-configuration state, per-port MAC-VLAN enable settings and maximum entry limits, and a port-membership table mapping ports to assigned VLAN IDs. Its monitoring value is primarily configuration/software status: snMacVlanIfEnable and snMacVlanIfMaxEntry reveal whether MAC-VLAN assignment is active on a port and how many dynamic entries it can hold, while snMacVlanPortMemberTable shows the live VLAN assignment resulting from that dynamic classification, letting an operator confirm devices are landing in the correct VLAN. It is a self-contained Brocade enterprise MIB with no evident dependency on other MIBs beyond standard SNMP table conventions. It is deployed on Brocade/Foundry FastIron access switches in environments using MAC-based dynamic VLAN assignment for endpoint segmentation, and administrators can obtain a FOUNDRY-SN-MAC-VLAN-MIB download to load the module directly into their MIB browser.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in FOUNDRY-SN-MAC-VLAN-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • Brocade (Foundry) FastIron switches

Monitoring Examples

Polling snMacVlanIfTable/snMacVlanIfEntry by snMacVlanIfIndex shows snMacVlanIfEnable and snMacVlanIfMaxEntry per port, confirming whether MAC-VLAN classification is turned on and how much table capacity remains. The snMacVlanPortMemberTable/snMacVlanPortMemberEntry, keyed by snMacVlanPortMemberPortId and snMacVlanPortMemberVLanId, reveals the actual dynamic VLAN assigned to a port at a given moment. If a port's assigned VLAN doesn't match the expected VLAN for a connecting device, or snMacVlanIfMaxEntry is being approached, it would indicate a MAC-VLAN table capacity or classification misconfiguration, diagnosable via snMacVlanGlobalClearOper to reset and retest.

What Can Be Monitored

  • per-port MAC-VLAN enable state
  • dynamic VLAN assignment per port
  • MAC-VLAN table maximum entries
