Category: Alarm and Event Management, Domain: Fault Management, Domain: Network Management

Description: Vendor-specific MIB for FMS100 network management system or fault management station providing alarm and event management objects.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is FMS100-MIB?

FMS100-MIB is a legacy 3Com vendor-specific MIB, registered under the 3Com enterprise OID and dating from the early-to-mid 1990s, for the LinkBuilder FMS100 hub family, a 100Mb Ethernet repeater/hub system. It models chassis environmental health through hubEnviroGroupTable (hubHighTemp, hubFanFailed, each tied to enterprise-specific a3comHighTemp/a3comFanFailed traps), repeater-level identity through pa100RptrTable (pa100RptrClass classI/classII per the 802.3 repeater standard, pa100RptrStackCardTypeInfo describing card types across a repeater stack), and per-port counters through pa100PortTable (pa100PortIsolate counting automatic port isolations from false-carrier events, pa100PortSymbolErrorDuringPacket counting invalid-symbol occurrences). This data is useful for monitoring the physical health of an early 100BaseTX repeater deployment, overheating, fan failure, and port-level signal-integrity problems that the 802.3 carrier-integrity state machine would otherwise mask. It depends on RFC1155-SMI for its base SMI types since it predates SNMPv2, and it is deployed on 3Com LinkBuilder FMS100 hub chassis, where administrators can download the FMS100-MIB MIB Browser definitions to load it alongside other 3Com repeater MIBs.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in FMS100-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • 3Com LinkBuilder FMS100 100Mb Ethernet hub / repeater chassis

Monitoring Examples

An operator polls hubHighTemp and hubFanFailed for the hub's service/group index and reviews pa100PortIsolate counters across pa100PortTable; a fan-failed trap combined with a climbing pa100PortIsolate count on multiple ports would indicate the hub is overheating and ports are being forced into the Link Unstable state as a result.

What Can Be Monitored

  • hub high-temperature and fan-failure status
  • repeater class and stack card type
  • per-port automatic isolation counter
  • per-port symbol error counter
  • group/port indexing and capacity
