Description: Foundry/Brocade FastIron MIB for Power over Ethernet (PoE) port configuration and power budget monitoring on PoE-capable switches.
Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.
What Is FDRY-POE-MIB?
FDRY-POE-MIB is a Brocade/Foundry proprietary MIB for the FastIron switch family covering Power over Ethernet (PoE) port and module management, providing objects to configure and monitor per-port power delivery. It exposes global PoE power-budget data (total/free capacity, honored allocation requests) and a per-port table with control state, wattage, power class, priority, and consumed power. This is squarely a hardware status/health MIB: it lets an admin monitor PoE power-supply health at the chassis level via the available power budget, and per-port hardware status such as how much power a connected powered device (an IP phone, AP, or camera) is actually drawing versus its allotted budget. There is no strong external MIB dependency beyond standard SNMP conventions, though it complements IF-MIB for port correlation. It is deployed on Brocade/Foundry FastIron PoE-capable access switches powering endpoint devices such as VoIP phones, wireless APs, and IP cameras, and administrators can get the FDRY-POE-MIB download directly to load it into their MIB browser for these platforms.
IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in FDRY-POE-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.
Supported Devices
- Brocade/Foundry FastIron PoE-capable Ethernet switch
Monitoring Examples
An admin would poll snAgentPoeGblPowerCapacityTotal versus snAgentPoeGblPowerCapacityFree to see how much of the chassis PoE budget remains before adding new powered devices. Per port, snAgentPoePortTable/Entry fields snAgentPoePortWattage, snAgentPoePortClass, and snAgentPoePortConsumed reveal whether a connected device (e.g., a class 3 AP) is drawing power within its negotiated class limit. A rising snAgentPoeGblPowerAllocationsRequestsHonored count nearing total capacity, combined with snAgentPoePortControl showing a port failed to power up, would indicate the PoE budget is exhausted and new devices cannot be powered.
What Can Be Monitored
- total/free PoE power capacity
- per-port power consumption
- per-port power class and wattage
- port PoE control/enable state
- honored power allocation requests
