Description: Fibre Channel fabric element MIB providing name server, topology, and fabric login management for FC switches.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is FCFABRIC-ELEMENT-MIB?

FCFABRIC-ELEMENT-MIB is a Fibre Channel Fabric Element MIB, part of the IETF/ANSI T11 family of standard Fibre Channel management MIBs (in the lineage of RFC 2837), used to manage fabric-level aspects of an FC switch such as its participation in the fabric name server, topology discovery, and fabric login (FLOGI) processing. It exposes objects covering fabric topology and name-server information, and login/management state for elements participating in the Fibre Channel fabric. Its monitoring value centers on fabric-level software status: whether a switch element is correctly logged into the fabric, how the fabric's name-server view of connected devices looks, and topology-related state that affects SAN connectivity. As a standards-based Fibre Channel MIB it is vendor-neutral and is typically used alongside other Fibre Channel management MIBs (such as FCMGMT-CNTL and connectivity-unit MIBs) that together provide full FC SAN visibility. It is deployed on Fibre Channel switches and directors within storage-area networks (SANs), and as an FCFABRIC-ELEMENT-MIB reference it applies broadly across vendor-neutral FC fabric monitoring in those SANs.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in FCFABRIC-ELEMENT-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB; applies to Fibre Channel switches/directors in a SAN

Monitoring Examples

Specific object and table names were not available in the sampled data for this module, but based on its stated purpose an operator would poll fabric login and name-server related objects to confirm that a switch's elements have successfully logged into the fabric and that the name server's view of connected devices matches expectations. A fabric element failing login or missing from the expected name-server entries would indicate an FC connectivity or zoning problem in the SAN.

What Can Be Monitored

  • fabric login state
  • fabric name-server entries
  • fabric topology status
