Category: Domain: Storage, Fibre Channel and Storage, Standard: IETF

Description: Fibre Channel over Ethernet (FCoE) MIB defining management objects for FCoE virtual ports, fabric login, and traffic statistics.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is FCoE-MIB?

FCoE-MIB defines management objects for Fibre Channel over Ethernet (FCoE), a T11/IETF-related technology that carries Fibre Channel SAN traffic over lossless Ethernet/DCB fabrics, and is a vendor-neutral module implemented across multiple switch vendors' FCoE-capable products. It exposes FIP (FCoE Initialization Protocol) snooping data: per-interface FCoE port type and fabric-service type information, plus a table of snooped FCoE Forwarder (FCF) entries with their switch name and address. In monitoring terms it tracks the software/protocol status of FCoE fabric login and discovery rather than raw hardware counters, letting an admin confirm which ports have discovered an FCF and whether expected FCoE initiators/switches are logged into the fabric. It builds on Fibre Channel management standards and general Ethernet/bridge MIBs for the underlying physical ports. It is typically deployed on data-center converged Ethernet (CEE/DCB) switches and FCoE-capable server adapters (CNAs) that bridge Fibre Channel SAN traffic onto an Ethernet fabric. Engineers implementing or auditing this functionality typically reference the FCoE-MIB RFC/standard documentation for the authoritative specification.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in FCoE-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • Fujitsu FCoE-capable data-center Ethernet switch/converged network adapter (FIP snooping) — Enterprise OID 211 resolves to Fujitsu, confirming this specific MIB registration belongs to Fujitsu's enterprise tree rather than being purely vendor-neutral IETF as previously described.

Monitoring Examples

An admin polling fcoeFipSnoopingInfoTable/Entry can check fcoeFipSnoopingInfoifIndex and fcoeFipSnoopingInfoPortType to confirm which switch ports are seen as FCoE-facing, and fcoeFipSnoopingInfoFsType to check the discovered fabric service type. Cross-referencing fcoeFipSnoopingFcfTable (fcoeFipSnoopingFcfAddress, fcoeFipSnoopingFcfSwitchName) reveals which FCoE Forwarders have been discovered on each interface via FIP snooping. If fcoeFipSnoopingFcfNumber drops to zero on a port that previously had an FCF entry, that indicates the FCoE fabric login has been lost on that link.

What Can Be Monitored

  • FIP-snooped FCoE port type per interface
  • discovered FCF (FCoE Forwarder) count
  • FCF switch name and address
  • fabric service (FS) type per port
