What Is EXPAND-NETWORKS-SMI?

EXPAND-NETWORKS-SMI is a Structure of Management Information module that defines the top-level enterprise OID namespace for Expand Networks, a vendor known for WAN optimization and acceleration appliances (later acquired by Riverbed). Like other SMI modules, it contains no runtime data objects itself -- it solely establishes the OID subtree under which all other Expand Networks product MIBs register their managed objects. Consequently it exposes no monitorable hardware/software status data directly; any monitoring of WAN link performance, compression ratios, CPU/memory, or appliance health takes place in the dependent Expand Networks MIB modules built on this registration tree. Every functional MIB in the Expand Networks line depends on this module purely for namespace allocation, not for functional data. It is relevant only in environments running legacy Expand Networks WAN optimization appliances, serving as the structural root of their SNMP management hierarchy. Any EXPAND-NETWORKS-SMI SNMP query against this OID tree itself returns no data, since all functional objects live in the dependent product MIBs registered beneath it.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in EXPAND-NETWORKS-SMI. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • Expand Networks WAN optimization/acceleration appliance

Monitoring Examples

This is a pure SMI/registration module with no data objects of its own (sample_objects is empty), so there is no concrete monitoring scenario to describe here -- actual polling of WAN optimization metrics would occur against the specific Expand Networks product MIBs registered beneath this OID tree.
