Organization: Ericsson AB

Last Updated: 2008-10-17

Category: Vendor: Ericsson

Description: Provides alarm processing and correlation management objects for Ericsson's network-level fault management platform.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is ERICSSON-ALARM-PC-MIB?

This MIB has no runtime data objects; it exists solely to maintain a fixed, global enumeration of standardized 'probable cause' values used to further qualify alarms raised elsewhere in Ericsson's SNMP fault-management MIB suite (such as the Alarm IRP MIB), since probable cause alone doesn't uniquely identify an alarm type. As a pure definitional/reference module it carries no interface, environmental, performance, or configuration objects of its own. It has no direct monitoring use in isolation; its practical monitoring value comes entirely through its dependency relationship with the alarm-carrying MIBs (e.g., ERICSSON-ALARM-IRP-MIB, ERICSSON-ALARM-XPATH-MIB) that reference its probable-cause enumeration to give operators a human-readable reason code alongside each alarm. It explicitly depends on and supplements the Ericsson SNMP Fault Management MIB documentation set and X.733-style alarm concepts. It is used within Ericsson telecom network management deployments as a shared reference table consumed by other Ericsson alarm MIBs rather than polled directly, and operators can download the ERICSSON-ALARM-PC-MIB file to load its probable-cause enumeration into their MIB browser.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in ERICSSON-ALARM-PC-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • Ericsson telecom network element
  • Ericsson element manager/network management system

Monitoring Examples

This module defines no tables or runtime objects of its own (sample_objects is empty) — it is a pure enumeration/definition module, so it has no direct polling scenario; other Ericsson alarm MIBs reference its probable-cause value definitions to annotate alarm entries with a standardized reason code.
