What Is ERICSSON-TOP-MIB?

ERICSSON-TOP-MIB is a minimal Ericsson vendor MIB whose sole purpose is to register the top-level 'ericsson' enterprise OID node, providing a common import point for all other Ericsson-authored MIB modules across the company's product lines. It defines no substantive managed objects, counters, or tables of its own and therefore exposes no data about hardware, software, or performance directly. Because it carries no monitorable objects, it has no role in day-to-day fault, performance, or configuration monitoring; its function is purely structural, anchoring the enterprise OID tree that every other Ericsson MIB (router, RAN, transport, etc.) descends from. Every other Ericsson-specific MIB module implicitly depends on this MIB for its enterprise OID root. It is referenced during MIB compilation across any deployment that uses Ericsson equipment, but it is never itself polled for operational status. Opening ERICSSON-TOP-MIB in a MIB Browser typically reveals only this single empty registration node, confirming that no further object detail exists beneath it.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in ERICSSON-TOP-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

What Can Be Monitored

  • enterprise OID namespace registration (structural only, no operational data)

Supported Devices

  • Ericsson Router 6675 — current pre-aggregation router in the Router 6000 series for mobile backhaul
  • Ericsson Router 6672 — current access router in the Router 6000 series

Monitoring Examples

A MIB browser or NMS compiling any Ericsson MIB (for example ERICSSON-ROUTER-MC-LAG-MIB or ERICSSON-ROUTER-SYS-SECURITY-MIB) imports the 'ericsson' identifier defined here to resolve the enterprise OID prefix shared by all Ericsson modules. There are no sample objects to poll because this module defines only the top-level OID registration node, not managed data. Its only practical 'monitoring' relevance is ensuring the OID namespace resolves correctly when other Ericsson MIBs are loaded into a management system.
