Description: Eltex MES 802.3ah OAM MIB for configuring Ethernet link OAM, remote failure indication, and loopback testing.
Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.
What Is ELTEX-MES-DOT3-OAM-MIB?
ELTEX-MES-DOT3-OAM-MIB is a vendor MIB for Eltex MES-series Ethernet switches implementing IEEE 802.3ah Ethernet-in-the-First-Mile Operations, Administration and Maintenance (OAM), part of the Layer 1/2 Ethernet link-management technology area. It provides configuration and control for Ethernet link OAM, including remote failure indication and loopback testing used to diagnose the health of a physical Ethernet link between two directly connected OAM-capable devices. For hardware/software status monitoring, this MIB is centered on link-layer fault detection: it lets an operator clear accumulated OAM statistics and inspect the overall OAM management objects to determine whether a link partner has reported a critical event, dying gasp, or link fault, which are key indicators of a failing physical connection or hardware fault on the remote end. It explicitly implements the IEEE 802.3ah OAM standard and likely depends on the standard DOT3-OAM-MIB conventions for its base object structure. It is deployed on Eltex MES switches at carrier or enterprise network edges where link-level OAM diagnostics are needed for first-mile Ethernet access circuits. Engineers can download the ELTEX-MES-DOT3-OAM-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.
IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in ELTEX-MES-DOT3-OAM-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.
Supported Devices
- Eltex MES-series Ethernet switch
Monitoring Examples
An operator troubleshooting a flapping access link would use eltMesDot3OamObjects to inspect the OAM state of a port and, after identifying a spike in OAM error events, invoke eltDot3OamClearStatistic to reset the counters and confirm whether the error rate resumes, which would indicate an ongoing physical-layer or remote-hardware fault rather than a one-off event.
What Can Be Monitored
- 802.3ah OAM link status
- remote failure indication
- loopback test state
- OAM error statistics
