Description: Manages IP prefix lists used for route filtering and policy control on Dell network devices.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is Dell-ippreflist-MIB?

This private MIB defines IP prefix-list objects used for route-filtering and routing-policy control on Dell network devices employing the RAD-derived "rl"-prefixed switch/router OS. It exposes configuration data describing named prefix lists, each containing rule or description entries that match on an IP address/prefix length and specify a permit/deny action, similar in concept to Cisco-style prefix lists used in route-map filtering. It is primarily a configuration-status MIB rather than a hardware-health MIB, but it does let an administrator verify the currently active routing-policy configuration (rlIpPrefListAction, rlIpPrefListGeLength/LeLength) is correctly applied, important when diagnosing unexpected route acceptance or rejection. It complements standard IETF routing MIBs by adding the policy-filtering layer that standard routing MIBs don't cover. It is deployed on Dell routers/L3 switches wherever BGP or OSPF route filtering via prefix lists is configured. Network engineers evaluating or troubleshooting this functionality can download the Dell-ippreflist-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in Dell-ippreflist-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • Dell router/Layer 3 switch

Monitoring Examples

A network engineer troubleshooting a route that isn't being learned would walk rlIpPrefListTable/rlIpPrefListEntry, filtering on rlIpPrefListName, to inspect rlIpPrefListInetAddr, rlIpPrefListPrefixLength, rlIpPrefListGeLength and rlIpPrefListLeLength alongside rlIpPrefListAction to see whether the prefix is explicitly permitted or denied. Verifying rlIpPrefListEntryType shows whether an entry is an active rule or just a descriptive comment. Finding an unexpected "deny" action matching the prefix in question would explain a missing route.

What Can Be Monitored

  • prefix list rule entries
  • matched prefix and length range
  • permit/deny action
  • prefix list entry type
