What Is Dell-JUMBOFRAMES-MIB?
This is a small Dell private MIB for configuring and monitoring jumbo frame (MTU greater than 1500 bytes) support on switch interfaces. It exposes only two pieces of state: the currently active jumbo-frame status and the status that will take effect after the next device reset. Its monitoring value is verifying that a software configuration change has actually taken effect, since jumbo-frame settings on some Dell switches require a reboot, so comparing current versus post-reset status reveals whether a pending change is still awaiting a reset. It complements the standard IF-MIB ifMtu object for the same interfaces. It is typically deployed on Dell switches supporting large-MTU traffic such as iSCSI storage networks or server clusters that require jumbo frames end to end. Engineers can download the Dell-JUMBOFRAMES-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.
IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in Dell-JUMBOFRAMES-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.
What Can Be Monitored
- current jumbo frame status
- pending jumbo frame status after reset
Supported Devices
- Dell network switch (PowerConnect/N-Series family)
Monitoring Examples
An administrator who has just enabled jumbo frames polls rlJumboFramesCurrentStatus to see the switch's active setting and rlJumboFramesStatusAfterReset to see what will apply after the next reboot. If the two values differ, that confirms the change is pending and the switch must be reset before jumbo frames take full effect. This prevents confusion when large frames are unexpectedly dropped despite jumbo frames appearing configured.
