Description: Manages IP tunnel (GRE, IPIP) configuration and statistics on Dell network devices.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is Dell-TUNNEL-MIB?

Dell-TUNNEL-MIB is a Dell private-enterprise MIB (built on the RadLAN-derived "rl" agent used in Dell PowerConnect-family switches) that manages IP tunnel configuration and statistics, including GRE/IPIP tunnels and ISATAP (Intra-Site Automatic Tunnel Addressing Protocol) IPv6-over-IPv4 transition tunnels. It exposes configuration objects for tunnel interfaces and ISATAP-specific parameters such as router discovery intervals and addressing, primarily configuration and protocol-state data rather than hardware sensors. Its monitoring value is on the software/protocol side: verifying that ISATAP tunnels are enabled and correctly addressed, and that router-solicitation/query intervals are set as expected, which helps detect IPv6 transition connectivity problems on the device. As a tunneling MIB it depends conceptually on IPv6 transition standards (ISATAP, defined in IETF RFCs) and on the vendor's general tunnel-interface framework (rlTunnelIfTable). It is typically deployed on Dell PowerConnect switches/routers that need IPv6-over-IPv4 tunneling for gradual IPv6 migration. Network engineers evaluating or troubleshooting this functionality can download the Dell-TUNNEL-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in Dell-TUNNEL-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • Dell PowerConnect switch/router

Monitoring Examples

An administrator would check rlTunnelIsatapStatus to confirm ISATAP tunneling is enabled and rlTunnelIsatapRouterAddress/rlTunnelIsatapLocalIPv4Address to verify correct addressing, alongside rlTunnelIsatapQueryInterval and rlTunnelIsatapRSInterval for router-solicitation timing. The rlTunnelIfTable/rlTunnelIfEntry with rlTunnelIfEncapsMethod shows configured tunnel interfaces and their encapsulation method; an ISATAP tunnel with no router address discovered would indicate an IPv6 transition connectivity failure.

What Can Be Monitored

  • ISATAP tunnel status
  • ISATAP router/local IPv4 address
  • router solicitation/query intervals
  • tunnel interface encapsulation method
