Description: Provides QoS configuration objects via SNMP mirroring CLI-based quality of service settings on Dell switches.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is Dell-QOS-CLI-MIB?

Dell-QOS-CLI-MIB is a Dell private MIB (under the shared "rnd" enterprise branch, using the same "rlQos" object-naming convention found in other switch-silicon-derived MIBs) that mirrors CLI-configured Quality of Service settings on Dell managed switches via SNMP. It defines an extensive set of tables covering ACL-based classification — rlQosOffsetTable and rlQosTupleTable for byte-offset and protocol-tuple match criteria, rlQosAceTable for individual access-control-elements, and rlQosAclTable/rlQosAclAceRefTable tying ACEs together into access lists — alongside queue-profile, DSCP-to-queue mapping, per-port rate limiting (policer CIR/CBS), and statistics tables (per-port policy counters, single/aggregate policer counters, output-queue counters). This lets an operator see exactly how traffic is being classified, policed, and queued at the port level, which is essential for diagnosing why certain flows are being dropped, remarked, or queued incorrectly under QoS policy. It depends on Q-BRIDGE-MIB (for VLAN/port list types) and companion Dell MIBs (Dell-POLICY-MIB, Dell-BRIDGEMIBOBJECTS-MIB, Dell-MIB) for shared textual conventions. It is deployed on Dell PowerConnect/Networking managed switches; administrators can download the Dell-QOS-CLI-MIB file to load it into their MIB browser for SNMP monitoring of these QoS settings.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in Dell-QOS-CLI-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • Dell PowerConnect / Dell Networking managed switches

Monitoring Examples

An operator polls rlQosAclTable and rlQosAceTable to confirm which access-control elements are bound to a port's policy and checks the associated rlQosPortPolicyStatisticsTable counters for matched/dropped packet counts; a policer statistics counter climbing rapidly alongside an active deny action would indicate a classifier is dropping more traffic than expected under the configured QoS policy.

What Can Be Monitored

  • ACL/ACE classification table entries
  • flow-classification offset and tuple tables
  • queue profile and DSCP-to-queue mapping
  • per-port policer rate-limit settings
  • port/policer/queue statistics counters

How to Use in IPNetwork Monitor

Example using rlQosAclCounterValue OID:

Select a Dell PowerConnect/Networking managed switch (CLI-style QoS ACEs/policers) as the target host to create a monitor — the SNMP service should be up and running on it. Click New Monitor, then check SNMP Custom on the Favorites tab, click Next, and confirm the host. On the next page, click Select... to open the built-in SNMP MIB Browser and type rlQosAclCounterValue into the Find box to locate it in the OID tree, selecting the specific row/instance you want to monitor since this is a table column, then select it and click OK. The value of the ACE counter. On the monitor's Main parameters page you can set the target's SNMP port (default 161), credentials, polling interval, and other settings — see the SNMP Monitor help for details. On the State conditions and Alerting tabs, configure when the monitor should change state and trigger an alert; since this is a Counter32-type OID, Value bounds is the most useful condition here — trigger an alert if the counter increases sharply between polls relative to its normal baseline, since an unexpected spike often reflects a real change in traffic or activity. Click Finish to create the monitor; you can adjust any parameter later.
