Organization: Dell

Last Updated: 2011--0-2-

Category: Domain: Network Management, Vendor: Dell

Description: Configures SNMP agent settings, community strings, and access control on Dell devices.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is Dell-SNMP-MIB?

This Dell private MIB configures the switch's own SNMP agent, including engine ID, SNMPv3 target-address handling, IP-address-to-index mapping, and notification filtering. It exposes management-plane configuration data rather than device operational statistics: engine identity, per-target parameters, and address-to-index mapping tables used to associate SNMPv3 management stations with internal indices. Its monitoring relevance is to the health of the management/monitoring plane itself, letting an administrator verify that SNMPv3 security parameters and trap destinations are correctly configured so that other monitoring data and traps actually reach the intended management station. It extends standard SNMP-TARGET-MIB, SNMP-NOTIFICATION-MIB, and SNMP-FRAMEWORK-MIB concepts with Dell-specific indexing helpers. It is deployed on Dell switches wherever administrators manage SNMPv3 authentication and trap-destination configuration for centralized monitoring. Engineers can download the Dell-SNMP-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in Dell-SNMP-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • Dell network switch (PowerConnect/N-Series family)

Monitoring Examples

An administrator troubleshooting a missing SNMPv3 trap checks rlSNMPv3IpAddrToIndexTable/rlSNMPv3IpAddrToIndexEntry to confirm that rlSNMPv3IpAddrToIndexAddr for the intended management station correctly maps to rlSNMPv3IpAddrToIndexMappedIndex. The rlTargetAddrExtTable and its rlTargetAddrMagicUsedInIndex object help verify that a configured trap target's internal indexing is consistent with the device's SNMPv3 engine configuration, exposed via rlSnmpEngineID. A mismatch in this mapping would explain why notifications configured for a given IP address aren't being delivered.

What Can Be Monitored

  • SNMP engine ID
  • SNMPv3 target address configuration
  • IP-address-to-index mapping status
  • notification filter configuration
