Description: Provides textual conventions for DSX digital cross-connect and transmission management MIB definitions.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is DSX-TC-MIB?

DSX-TC-MIB is a vendor MIB (Nortel-lineage, nndsx prefix) providing shared textual conventions for T1/E1 and related T3/E3 digital cross-connect and transmission interface modules, rather than exposing monitoring data of its own. It defines the common data types and group identifiers (e.g., nndsxT1E1IfGroup and nndsxT3E3IfGroup) that other Nortel transmission MIBs reuse when describing framing, alarm, and line-status objects for cross-connect hardware. As a textual-conventions module it does not itself carry runtime counters, but by underpinning the T1/E1/T3/E3 interface MIBs it indirectly supports monitoring of physical-layer transmission health such as line status, alarms, and interface type on DSX cross-connect cards. It has an explicit dependency relationship with the broader Nortel DSX MIB family (and ultimately the IETF DS1/DS3 MIBs) that consume these textual conventions. It is typically deployed as a support module alongside Nortel/related carrier transmission equipment that terminates T1/E1/T3/E3 circuits. Network engineers evaluating or troubleshooting this functionality can download the DSX-TC-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in DSX-TC-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • Nortel/related DSX digital cross-connect systems
  • T1/E1/T3/E3 transmission equipment

Monitoring Examples

DSX-TC-MIB itself defines textual conventions and group identifiers such as nndsxT1E1IfGroup and nndsxT3E3IfGroup rather than pollable runtime objects, so it has no monitoring scenario of its own: the actual line-status, alarm, and performance counters are exposed by the sibling DSX MIB modules that import these type definitions. Those sibling modules would be polled to detect conditions like loss-of-signal or frame slips on a T1/E1/T3/E3 circuit, using the group classifications defined here.
