Category: Technology: Traffic Monitoring
Description: Manages Deep Packet Inspection (DPI) for local area network analysis and application classification.
Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.
What Is DPI-LANA-MIB?
The DPI-LANA-MIB is a vendor-specific MIB for the LANA line of network serial device servers, sitting under a private enterprise "dpi"/"dpiProducts" OID branch rather than being a true deep-packet-inspection module despite its name. It exposes configuration data for RS-232 serial port parameters (speed, bit width, stop bits, parity) alongside basic IP networking settings such as subnet mask, default gateway, and broadcast forwarding behavior. For monitoring hardware and software status, it surfaces the device's software major/minor version and provides administrative controls to trigger a unit reset, restore factory defaults, or push a unit update. Because the module blends serial-line and IP configuration in one flat proprietary tree, it does not appear to depend on other standard MIBs beyond basic SNMPv2 conventions. It would typically be deployed to remotely manage and audit small serial-to-network gateway/terminal server appliances in industrial or remote-access settings, where DPI-LANA-MIB SNMP monitoring confirms serial-line settings and firmware versions stay consistent across the fleet.
IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in DPI-LANA-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.
Supported Devices
- Serial-to-network device server / terminal server (LANA product line)
Monitoring Examples
An administrator could poll lanaRs232PortSpeed, lanaRs232AsyncPortBits, lanaRs232AsyncPortStopBits, and lanaRs232AsyncPortParity to confirm the serial line settings match the attached equipment, and check lanaSubnetMask and lanaDefGatewayIpAddr to verify network configuration after a change. Comparing lanaSWMajorVer/lanaSWMinorVer against a fleet baseline would flag units running outdated firmware. If a device becomes unreachable after a misconfiguration, an operator might invoke lanaReset or lanaFactoryDefault to recover it to a known state.
What Can Be Monitored
- RS-232 port speed and framing (bits, stop bits, parity)
- subnet mask and default gateway
- broadcast forwarding setting
- software major/minor version
- unit reset and factory-default state
