What Is DLINK-WLAN-MIB?

DLINK-WLAN-MIB is D-Link's proprietary WLAN MIB for 802.11-based wireless access points and routers, explicitly derived from the IEEE 802.11 MIB (dot11 objects), covering radio/station configuration and management operations. It exposes standard 802.11 station and radio parameters (station ID, desired SSID, BSS type, operational rate set, beacon period, DTIM period, privacy/power-management options) alongside D-Link-specific AP system controls for saving/applying configuration and rebooting. This MIB supports both configuration monitoring (SSID, security, rate settings) and software-management actions (enterpriseAPSysReboot, enterpriseAPSysConfigSave/Apply), letting an administrator confirm a config change was actually applied or trigger/verify a remote reboot of the AP. It explicitly builds on the IEEE802dot11 MIB standard, extending it with D-Link enterprise AP management objects. It is deployed on D-Link wireless access points and wireless routers in SMB/home-office wireless deployments, where a DLINK-WLAN-MIB download from D-Link's support site is typically the starting point for compiling these objects into a MIB browser.

Monitoring Examples

An administrator would poll dot11DesiredSSID and dot11DesiredBSSType to confirm the AP is broadcasting the intended network name and mode, and check dot11BeaconPeriod/dot11DTIMPeriod against expected values if clients report slow reconnect/roaming times. Setting enterpriseAPSysConfigApply after a configuration change and then re-reading dot11OperationalRateSet confirms the change took effect without a full reboot. If configuration still fails to apply, enterpriseAPSysReboot could be invoked and dot11StationID re-checked once the AP comes back up.

How to Use in IPNetwork Monitor

Example using dot11WEPICVErrorCount OID:

Select a D-Link 802.11 wireless access point/router as the target host to create a monitor — the SNMP service should be up and running on it. Click New Monitor, then check SNMP Custom on the Favorites tab, click Next, and confirm the host. On the next page, click Select... to open the built-in SNMP MIB Browser and type dot11WEPICVErrorCount into the Find box to locate it in the OID tree, then select it and click OK. This counter shall increment when a frame is received with the WEP subfield of the Frame Control field set to one and the value of the ICV as received in the frame does not match the ICV value that is calculated for. On the monitor's Main parameters page you can set the target's SNMP port (default 161), credentials, polling interval, and other settings — see the SNMP Monitor help for details. On the State conditions and Alerting tabs, configure when the monitor should change state and trigger an alert; since this is a Counter32-type OID, Value bounds is the most useful condition here — trigger an alert if the counter increases sharply between polls relative to its normal baseline, since an unexpected spike often reflects a real change in traffic or activity. Click Finish to create the monitor; you can adjust any parameter later.
