What Is DIESEL-SMI?
DIESEL-SMI is a Structure of Management Information module for Diesel/NetOptix devices, establishing the top-level OID hierarchy and enterprise registration under which Diesel/NetOptix product-specific MIBs are organized. As a pure SMI root module it defines no runtime OBJECT-TYPE instances of its own, serving only as organizational scaffolding for other Diesel/NetOptix management modules. It therefore cannot be used directly to monitor hardware or software status -- no interface, environmental, or performance data is exposed here; that capability resides in the specific product MIBs registered beneath this tree. Those dependent MIBs rely on this SMI purely for consistent OID placement within the Diesel/NetOptix enterprise branch. It would be imported by MIB tooling only, not polled directly against a live Diesel/NetOptix device, and network engineers typically load the DIESEL-SMI MIB first so that dependent Diesel/NetOptix modules resolve their OIDs correctly.
