Last Updated: 2001-05-09

Category: Hardware and Environment

Description: Manages hardware component inventory, status, and environmental monitoring for network devices.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is DEVHW-MIB?

DEVHW-MIB provides device hardware inventory objects common to base station unit (BSU) and subscriber unit (SU) equipment, indicating it belongs to a fixed wireless or telecom access product family rather than a conventional Ethernet switch. It exposes hardware identification and revision data, hardware revision level, board revision, build date, serial number, and clock/interface speed, shared across the different hardware roles in the system. For monitoring hardware status, its purpose is squarely about confirming exactly which hardware revision and serial number is installed and when it was built, useful for tracking field hardware versions, coordinating firmware compatibility, and validating warranty/support eligibility. It is a vendor-specific hardware-inventory MIB with no significant dependency on external standard MIBs apparent from its scope. It is typically deployed across a wireless access network's base and subscriber units, where centralized inventory of hardware revisions helps operators plan compatible firmware rollouts and RMA/support processes, and this DEVHW-MIB guide helps administrators quickly locate the relevant hardware-inventory objects during that planning.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in DEVHW-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • fixed wireless base station units (BSU) and subscriber units (SU)

Monitoring Examples

An admin can poll aniDevHwSerialNum and aniDevHwRevision to confirm the exact hardware unit and revision installed at a given base station or subscriber site, useful when planning a firmware upgrade that requires a minimum hardware revision. aniDevHwBoardRevision and aniDevHwBuildDate provide additional granularity for identifying older hardware batches that may need replacement or special handling. aniDevHwSpeed would be checked to confirm the unit's interface/clock speed matches the expected deployment configuration, flagging a mismatched or misconfigured unit.

What Can Be Monitored
