Organization: Broadband Access Systems

Last Updated: 1999-01-18

Category: DOCSIS and Cable, Hardware and Environment

Description: Manages BAS CMTS chassis hardware, including slot assignments, power supplies, and chassis-level alarms.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is BAS-CHASSIS-MIB?

BAS-CHASSIS-MIB manages the physical chassis-level configuration of Broadband Access Systems CMTS hardware, covering chassis and cluster identification, slot/card addressing, and integration with an external LDAP server for directory-based management. It exposes chassis and cluster ID objects, per-slot/logical-port chassis information entries, and LDAP server connection parameters (address, port, credentials) used by the chassis management subsystem. Its primary hardware/software status role is identifying and confirming chassis and cluster membership for each card slot, and validating that the chassis can reach its configured LDAP authentication server -- a prerequisite for proper chassis management operation. It belongs to the family of BAS-*-MIB modules that share the same chassis/slot/interface/logical-port addressing scheme (alongside BAS-ACCESS-MIB, BAS-CLUSTER-MIB, etc.). It is deployed by cable operators on Broadband Access Systems CMTS chassis in headend or hub facilities. Engineers can download the BAS-CHASSIS-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in BAS-CHASSIS-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • Broadband Access Systems (BAS) CMTS chassis
  • cable headend broadband access hardware

Monitoring Examples

An administrator polls basChassisInfoTable/basChassisInfoEntry rows keyed by basChassisInfoChassis and basChassisInfoSlot to confirm each card reports the expected basChassisInfoChassisId and basChassisInfoClusterId for its cluster. If chassis management functions start failing, checking basChassisInfoLdapServerIpAddr and basChassisInfoLdapServerPort would reveal whether the chassis has lost connectivity to its LDAP authentication server.

What Can Be Monitored

  • chassis and cluster identification per slot
  • LDAP server address/port/credentials configuration
  • chassis/slot/port addressing
  • DHCP relay configuration
