Category: Alarm and Event Management

Description: Manages event logging, notification, and alarm reporting for network device management.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is DEVEVENT-MIB?

DEVEVENT-MIB is a vendor (ANI-prefixed) device-management MIB module that defines event logging, notification, and alarm-reporting functionality for network devices such as wireless base stations and subscriber units. It exposes configuration objects for routing event notifications by email (SMTP sender/receiver addresses, domain name, enable/disable flags) rather than raw event data itself, since the module notes that direct SNMP viewing or clearing of the event log table is not supported. Its primary monitoring value is as a fault/alerting mechanism: it lets an operator configure the device to proactively email designated recipients when internal alarm or fault conditions occur, functioning as an out-of-band software/hardware health notification channel complementing SNMP trap-based monitoring. It depends on a companion device-server MIB for the actual SMTP server address configuration (aniDevSmtpServer), referenced directly in its own description. It is typically deployed on wireless base station units (BSU) and subscriber units (SU) in fixed-wireless or WiMAX-style network deployments where centralized email alerting of device faults is desired. Engineers can download the DEVEVENT-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in DEVEVENT-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • wireless base station unit (BSU)
  • wireless subscriber unit (SU)

Monitoring Examples

An administrator would configure aniDevEmailSending, aniDevEmailSender, aniDevDomainName, and one or more of aniDevEmailReceiver1/aniDevEmailReceiver2 to route event alarms to an operations mailbox, then enable aniDevEvNotify so that internal event/alarm conditions trigger an outbound email. Since the module explicitly states the underlying event log table cannot be read or cleared via SNMP, monitoring here means verifying the notification configuration is correctly set rather than polling event history directly; a misconfigured aniDevEmailReceiver1 or disabled aniDevEmailSending would mean device faults go silently unreported.

What Can Be Monitored

  • email notification enable/disable state
  • configured SMTP sender/recipient addresses
  • event notification routing configuration
  • alarm-to-email forwarding status
