Category: Alarm and Event Management, Domain: Fault Management, Vendor: Belden

Description: Hirschmann generic error MIB defining common error codes and alarm notifications for Hirschmann industrial switches.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is HIRSCHMANN-GENERIC-ERROR-MIB?

HIRSCHMANN-GENERIC-ERROR-MIB is a Hirschmann Automation and Control proprietary MIB (enterprise OID 248) whose sole role, per the available source, is to define a generic error-message template used across other Hirschmann MIBs — specifically a templated conflict message for redundancy protocols ("Cannot enable {feature} because of enabled {other feature}"). It carries no data-bearing objects itself. As a supporting/textual-convention MIB it standardizes how mutually-exclusive redundancy-protocol conflicts are reported across the Hirschmann product line rather than exposing pollable state. It is present as a dependency wherever Hirschmann switches report this class of configuration conflict. Engineers can download the HIRSCHMANN-GENERIC-ERROR-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in HIRSCHMANN-GENERIC-ERROR-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • Hirschmann industrial Ethernet switches

Monitoring Examples

A management application decodes a Hirschmann device's redundancy-protocol conflict notification using this MIB's message template to present a clear "cannot enable X because Y is enabled" error to the operator.
