Category: Alarm and Event Management

Description: Defines SNMP trap notifications for operational events on network devices.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is DEVTRAPS-MIB?

DEVTRAPS-MIB is a vendor-specific MIB defining SNMP trap notifications for operational events on the BSU/SU (Base Station Unit / Subscriber Unit) wireless broadband product family. It exposes a trap-control object and a set of trap notification definitions rather than polled runtime tables, allowing an NMS to be alerted asynchronously to significant device events. Its monitoring role centers on fault and event notification, letting an administrator enable or disable trap generation via aniDevControlTrapGeneration and receive real-time alerts about operational events on the device (complementing the polled data in the sibling DEVBASE/DEVETHERNET/DEVCONTROL/DEVSERVER MIBs), which is effectively a software/operational-status signal for the unit. It depends conceptually on the SNMPv2 notification framework (SNMPv2-TRAP-PMIB conventions) and works alongside the other 'ani' device MIBs in the same family. It is typically deployed on BSU/SU wireless units where an NMS needs push notifications from the DEVTRAPS-MIB MIB rather than only periodic polling.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in DEVTRAPS-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • fixed wireless Base Station Unit (BSU)
  • fixed wireless Subscriber Unit (SU)

Monitoring Examples

An administrator would set aniDevControlTrapGeneration to enable trap generation on a unit, then configure the NMS to listen for the aniDevTraps notifications defined by this MIB to be alerted immediately when a significant device event occurs, such as a reset or configuration change, rather than waiting for the next poll cycle. aniDevTrapControl provides finer-grained control over which trap types are active. Because the available detail is limited to these control and top-level trap objects, specific per-event trap varbind contents are not enumerated here.

What Can Be Monitored

  • trap generation enable/disable state
  • trap type control settings
  • asynchronous operational event notifications
