Category: ATM, Vendor: H3C/HH3C
Description: H3C MIB for managing ATM Adaptation Layer 5 (AAL5) virtual connections and associated performance counters.
Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.
What Is H3C-AAL5-MIB?
H3C-AAL5-MIB is an H3C vendor MIB that extends ATM management by exposing AAL5 (ATM Adaptation Layer 5)-specific objects not covered by the standard ATM MIB (RFC 1695). It defines a table of AAL5 virtual channel connections (VCCs) identified by VPI/VCI pairs, tracking per-VCC packet and octet counters in both directions along with connection state. Its monitoring value is centered on interface/connection performance and fault status rather than physical hardware sensors: administrators can track h3cAal5VccInPkts/OutPkts and h3cAal5VccInOctets/OutOctets for throughput trending, and h3cAal5VccState to detect a VCC that has gone down or is not operating as expected. It explicitly complements RFC 1695 (the standard ATM MIB), filling gaps in AAL5-layer detail that the IETF standard does not cover. It is typically deployed on H3C routers and switches equipped with ATM interfaces in service-provider or enterprise WAN networks using ATM/AAL5 virtual circuits. Engineers can download the H3C-AAL5-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.
IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in H3C-AAL5-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.
Supported Devices
- H3C router/switch with ATM interfaces
Monitoring Examples
An administrator would poll the h3cAal5VccTable (h3cAal5VccEntry, indexed by h3cAal5VccVpi and h3cAal5VccVci) to check h3cAal5VccState for a given virtual channel connection, flagging any VCC that has transitioned out of an operational state. h3cAal5VccInPkts/OutPkts and h3cAal5VccInOctets/OutOctets would be trended over time to spot a sudden drop in traffic that could indicate an upstream ATM circuit fault or misconfiguration on that VPI/VCI pair.
What Can Be Monitored
- AAL5 VCC operational state
- per-VCC inbound/outbound packet counts
- per-VCC inbound/outbound octet counts
- VPI/VCI connection inventory
