Description: Provides generic ATM interface management objects for the FreeBSD Begemot SNMP daemon (bsnmpd).
Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.
What Is BEGEMOT-ATM-MIB?
BEGEMOT-ATM-MIB is part of the Begemot SNMP daemon (bsnmpd) suite for FreeBSD, providing generic management objects for ATM network interfaces. It exposes per-interface ATM configuration such as peak cell rate, media type, VPI/VCI bit allocation, maximum VPC/VCC capacity, end-system identifier (ESI), and operating mode. The begemotAtmIfCarrierStatus object is the key hardware-health indicator, reporting whether the physical ATM line has carrier/signal, letting an admin detect a down or degraded ATM link. As a companion to the base IF-MIB using the same ifIndex-style addressing, it is vendor-neutral within the BSD SNMP agent framework rather than tied to a commercial hardware vendor. It is typically deployed on FreeBSD-based routers or WAN edge devices with legacy ATM interfaces. Engineers can download the BEGEMOT-ATM-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.
IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in BEGEMOT-ATM-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.
Supported Devices
- vendor-neutral, standards-adjacent MIB for FreeBSD bsnmpd
- FreeBSD-based router/WAN device with ATM interfaces
Monitoring Examples
Polling begemotAtmIfTable/begemotAtmIfEntry for begemotAtmIfCarrierStatus on a given begemotAtmIfName would immediately reveal a carrier-down condition on an ATM WAN link. Cross-referencing begemotAtmIfPcr and begemotAtmIfMaxVccs against expected provisioning values confirms the interface is configured for its intended cell rate and virtual-circuit capacity, while begemotAtmIfEsi provides the interface's unique ATM endpoint identifier for inventory purposes.
What Can Be Monitored
- ATM interface carrier/link status
- peak cell rate configuration
- VPI/VCI bit allocation
- max VPC/VCC capacity
- ATM interface operating mode
