Description: Manages the BTM (backplane transport module) for Cyan optical transport systems.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is CYAN-BTM-MIB?

CYAN-BTM-MIB is a private MIB from Cyan Inc., an optical/packet-optical transport networking vendor later acquired by Ciena, for managing the BTM (Backplane/BOSS Termination Module), a hardware module within Cyan's Z-Series optical transport platform. It exposes hardware inventory and status data such as shelf and module identifiers, administrative state, asset tag, base MAC address, and audible/critical alarm indicators for the BTM module. It is directly used to monitor the hardware status of the BTM card, including its administrative state (in-service/out-of-service), critical alarm flag, audible alarm state, and an auto-in-service soak timer, which together reveal whether the module is healthy, alarmed, or still stabilizing after insertion. It is part of Cyan's broader BOSS (Blue Ocean Software System) management MIB family and has no notable dependency on external standard MIBs beyond basic SNMPv2 conventions. It's typically deployed on Cyan Z-Series packet-optical transport shelves in metro/regional optical transport networks. Engineers can download the CYAN-BTM-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in CYAN-BTM-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • Cyan Z-Series packet-optical transport platform

Monitoring Examples

An operator polls cyanBtmTable/cyanBtmEntry (indexed by cyanBtmShelfId and cyanBtmBtmId) to check cyanBtmAdminState and cyanBtmCritical for each BTM module in the shelf. cyanBtmAutoinserviceSoakTimeSec shows how long a newly inserted module has been soaking before being brought fully into service, and cyanBtmBaseMacAddress/cyanBtmAssetTag support hardware inventory tracking. A module reporting cyanBtmCritical set combined with cyanBtmAudible active would indicate an active hardware alarm requiring attention.

What Can Be Monitored

  • BTM administrative state
  • critical alarm status
  • audible alarm status
  • auto-in-service soak timer
  • module asset tag/MAC address inventory
