Category: Protocol: Frame Relay, Vendor: Memotec

Description: Manages Frame Relay gateway services and protocol conversion on CX Memotec devices.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is CXGwFr-MIB?

CXGwFr-MIB is a CX/Memotec MIB managing Frame Relay gateway services and protocol conversion functionality, letting a device bridge or convert between Frame Relay and other WAN protocols. Based on its naming and the one confirmed object, it exposes a gateway frame-relay-to-frame (gff) SAP table tracking per-channel gateway conversion configuration and state. For monitoring it would be used to confirm each gateway SAP/channel is operationally active and correctly converting protocol frames, revealing a channel that has failed to establish its Frame Relay conversion path rather than any physical hardware fault. It depends on underlying Frame Relay standards (ANSI/ITU Frame Relay, and the base FRAME-RELAY-DTE-MIB concepts) for the DLCI/circuit layer being gatewayed. It is deployed on CX Memotec WAN gateway devices performing Frame Relay protocol conversion/interworking. Engineers can download the CXGwFr-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in CXGwFr-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • CX Memotec Frame Relay gateway device

Monitoring Examples

An administrator would poll gffSapTable/gffSapEntry (inferred per-SAP entry of the gateway frame-relay-to-frame table) for per-channel status to confirm a given gateway conversion path is operationally established. Since only gffSapTable was confirmed among sample_objects, more granular per-column details (e.g., specific status or counter columns) are not confirmed and would need to be verified against the actual MIB source rather than assumed. A channel showing an inactive or error state in this table would indicate a Frame Relay gateway conversion failure needing investigation.

What Can Be Monitored

  • gateway SAP/channel operational state
  • Frame Relay conversion path status
