Category: Frame Relay, Vendor: Cabletron/Enterasys

Description: Manages Cabletron WAN inverse multiplexer configuration for bonding multiple WAN links into a single channel.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is CTRON-WAN-IMUX-MIB?

CTRON-WAN-IMUX-MIB is a Cabletron (later Enterasys) enterprise MIB for managing WAN inverse multiplexers -- devices or line cards that bond multiple individual WAN links (such as multiple serial or T1 circuits) into a single logical high-bandwidth channel. It is intended to expose the configuration and status of the bonded channel and its constituent member links. This directly supports hardware status monitoring of WAN connectivity: tracking whether each member link within the bonded group is up or down reveals partial-capacity conditions where the logical channel is still functioning but at reduced bandwidth because one or more physical links have failed. It relies on the standard IF-MIB interface-index model for its member WAN interfaces while adding Cabletron-private inverse-multiplexing semantics on top. It is deployed on Cabletron/Enterasys WAN routers or multiplexer equipment bonding multiple serial WAN links into one logical circuit. Engineers can download the CTRON-WAN-IMUX-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in CTRON-WAN-IMUX-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • Cabletron/Enterasys WAN routers and inverse-multiplexer equipment

Monitoring Examples

No specific object or table names were available for this module, so a concrete polling scenario cannot be grounded in real identifiers; conceptually, though, an administrator would check each bonded member link's up/down status and the resulting aggregate channel bandwidth to detect when one of several bonded WAN links has failed, reducing available throughput without dropping the logical channel entirely.

What Can Be Monitored

  • bonded channel status
  • individual member link up/down state
  • aggregate bonded channel bandwidth
