It exposes a packet-manager table tracking total packets, packets used/available/in-use for buffering, and error counters for packets that could not be classified or were too large. For hardware/software status monitoring, sfpsPacketMgrPktsAvailable versus sfpsPacketMgrPktsInUse reveals whether the switch's packet buffer pool is running low -- a hardware-resource exhaustion condition -- while sfpsPacketMgrNotFound and sfpsPacketMgrTooLarge counters expose packet-processing errors indicating misconfiguration or oversized frames hitting the switch. It works as a companion to CTRON-SFPS-BASE-MIB, CTRON-SFPS-CALL-MIB, and CTRON-SFPS-CONN-MIB within the broader SFPS architecture. It is deployed on Cabletron SecureFast Packet Switch devices, where the CTRON-SFPS-PKTMGR-MIB MIB is polled to monitor packet-buffer health and classification errors.

An administrator would poll sfpsPacketMgrTable entries per sfpsPacketMgrSwitchID, comparing sfpsPacketMgrPktsAvailable to sfpsPacketMgrPktsInUse to see if the packet buffer pool is close to exhaustion, which would precede packet drops. Rising sfpsPacketMgrNotFound or sfpsPacketMgrTooLarge counts alongside sfpsPacketMgrTotalPackets would indicate a growing rate of misclassified or oversized packets reaching the switch. sfpsPacketMgrToCreate lets the admin see how many new packet buffers the manager is attempting to allocate, a useful leading indicator of load.
