Description: HP ICF SNMP MIB for scheduling automated tasks and timed command execution on HP ProCurve switches.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is HP-ICF-JOB-SCHEDULER-MIB?

HP-ICF-JOB-SCHEDULER-MIB is a Hewlett-Packard proprietary SNMP module belonging to the HP Integrated Communication Facility (ICF) family used on ProCurve and Aruba-branded switches. It defines configuration objects for the switch's internal job scheduler, letting an operator create, modify, and enable timed jobs that run CLI commands or maintenance routines at specified intervals. Its practical monitoring value is in job/queue status — confirming a scheduled job is enabled, checking its configured trigger time, and verifying whether its last run succeeded — which is a software/process-status check rather than a hardware one. It is a standalone HP proprietary extension with no notable dependency on other standards MIBs. It is typically deployed in enterprise campus or branch networks where administrators rely on the switch's built-in scheduler for recurring maintenance (e.g., scheduled reboots or configuration saves) instead of an external automation tool, often checking job state through an HP-ICF-JOB-SCHEDULER-MIB MIB Browser session before trusting the schedule.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in HP-ICF-JOB-SCHEDULER-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • HP ProCurve managed switch
  • HP Aruba switch

Monitoring Examples

No object names were captured in the sampled source for this module, so specifics beyond its stated purpose cannot be confirmed. Based on its description, the module would expose per-job scalars or table rows describing a job's name, its configured schedule, whether it is currently enabled, and the result of its last execution. An administrator could poll such a table to confirm that a nightly configuration-backup job actually fired and completed rather than silently failing.

What Can Be Monitored

  • scheduled job enabled/disabled state
  • job trigger schedule
  • last job execution result
  • job name/identifier

How to Use in IPNetwork Monitor

Example using hpicfJobSchedulerRunningStatus OID:

Select an HP ProCurve/Aruba switch (internal scheduled-job/CLI automation) as the target host to create a monitor — the SNMP service should be up and running on it. Click New Monitor, then check SNMP Custom on the Favorites tab, click Next, and confirm the host. On the next page, click Select... to open the built-in SNMP MIB Browser and type hpicfJobSchedulerRunningStatus into the Find box to locate it in the OID tree, selecting the specific row/instance you want to monitor since this is a table column, then select it and click OK. Indicates whether the job running status is Active, Inactive or Expired. On the monitor's Main parameters page you can set the target's SNMP port (default 161), credentials, polling interval, and other settings — see the SNMP Monitor help for details. On the State conditions and Alerting tabs, configure when the monitor should change state and trigger an alert; since this is an INTEGER-type OID, Value bounds is the most useful condition here — trigger an alert if the value is 'expired', since that means the scheduled job's run window has ended and it will no longer execute. Click Finish to create the monitor; you can adjust any parameter later.
