Category: Alarm and Event Management, VPN and Security, Vendor: Clavister

Description: Defines SNMP trap notifications for Clavister security appliance events and policy violations.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is CLAVISTER-TRAPS-MIB?

This MIB defines the SNMP trap/notification variable bindings sent by Clavister security appliances (firewalls/UTM devices) to report operating-system-level events, security policy violations, and system alerts. Rather than polled tables, it consists mainly of trap varbind objects - severity, category, event ID, associated action, timestamp, and a human-readable message - that accompany each notification the appliance sends. Its primary monitoring value is fault/event awareness: an NMS receiving these traps learns about software-level state changes such as policy rule triggers, authentication failures, system errors, or other categorized security events in near-real time. As a pure notification MIB it typically doesn't carry hardware health metrics itself but is generally deployed alongside Clavister's other MIBs (or SNMPv2 standard traps) that do expose system status. It's deployed on Clavister firewall/security gateway appliances in enterprise or service-provider network security monitoring setups. Engineers can download the CLAVISTER-TRAPS-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in CLAVISTER-TRAPS-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • Clavister firewall/UTM security appliance

Monitoring Examples

When a security event fires, the trap carries clavisterOSTrapVarSeverity and clavisterOSTrapVarCategory so an SNMP trap receiver can immediately triage severity, while clavisterOSTrapVarEvent and clavisterOSTrapVarMessage give the specific event ID and readable description, such as a blocked intrusion attempt or failed login. clavisterOSTrapVarAction indicates what the appliance did in response (block, log, alert), and clavisterOSTrapVarTime timestamps the event for correlation with other logs. Since this MIB is trap-oriented, there isn't a polled monitoring table - its role is to enrich real-time alerts, not to support periodic state polling.

What Can Be Monitored

  • security event severity
  • event category
  • event/message description
  • action taken on event
  • event timestamp
